Popsicles in the Park/Outdoor Games with Jimmy Magoo
All current and potential CHDH members are invited to the Chapel Hill – Durham Homeschoolers’ not-back-to-school event.
When: September 13th – 1:30 for popsicles followed by outdoor games from 2:00 to 3:30
Where: Cedar Falls Park (501 Weaver Dairy Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514)
Cost: Popsicles and Outdoor Games are free for everyone at our not-back-to-school event!
Join fellow CHDH families after our first morning of Friday Enrichment classes. We will meet at Cedar Falls park at 1:30. Bring a picnic if you like. CHDH will provide popsicles for everyone. At 2:00 Outdoor Games with Jimmy Magoo will begin. If your kids have never participated in Outdoor Games, this is a great time to try it out. Since outdoor games is part of the CHDH event on the 6th, there will be no charge to individual families.
Here is the description from Jimmy:
We meet at Cedar Falls Park as many Friday’s as possible through the fall, winter and spring, with the obvious holiday exceptions. Sometimes we meet elsewhere, usually as an addition to a CHDH event. You’ll be notified through this group of cancellations or change of venues.
We play cooperative and gently competitive large-group games, both in the woods and on the field. WE DON’T PLAY TEAM SPORTS. My inspirations come from theater games, playground games, camp games, field games, New Games, and the sorts of things I did with my neighborhood friends growing up. The games are generally very active, and appropriate for children ages six and up. The median age is around 10-12, although that varies from week to week, and we regularly have older teens (and even adventurous toddlers!) join the fun.
Wear weather-appropriate play clothes. Yes, we play in all kinds of weather, rain, snow or shine! The only real exceptions are dangerous weather, and some of those very cold, rainy winter days that make everyone want to stay inside and drink hot cocoa. You’ll be notified, usually that day, if I’m cancelling due to weather. If for any other reason I cannot be there, I’ll try to notify you well in advance.
Bring a water bottle. We play pretty hard for an hour and a half, and water is essential. There is a drinking fountain and bathroom facilities at the park, but sometimes either one is not working for various reasons.
